What is code?

Code is used to record, transmit, and receive information that is shared.  On a computer you can do all sorts of things like play games, do homework or talk to friends.  All these things are done using computer programs, but what are programs made from? Computer programs are made out of their own special language called code.  A computer cannot think for itself and you cannot talk to it like a person.  It needs computer programmes so it knows what to do.  Code is made out of words and numbers. Sometimes it is made from words you already know. You can learn how to put these words in order so the computer understands what to do.

Scratch

Scratch is a programming language that lets you create your own stories, games, animations, music and art.

  • Discussion on code, data and language.

Differentiation:   Allow extra time for students.  Mixed groupings to collaborate understandings.  VAK strategies.
