Teaching and learning sequence:

Activate prior knowledge - everyday materials - what are they made of?

Class discussion and revisit word wall of vocabulary - why are certain materials used for certain purposes?

Story - The true story of the Three Little Pigs.

Discuss - building materials - what worked, what didn’t, why?

Group work - photo of object and students to predict what object is, what it made of and why the materials used for that object (Worksheet 1).

Discuss ideas - whole class.

Watch video - First the Base, then the Frame. Follow - Things to think about.

Discuss video - materials, design and tools used.

Individual work - Draw a picture of a house and label materials used.
