Teaching and learning sequence:

Activate prior knowledge - everyday materials - what are they made of?

Class discussion and word wall of vocabulary - type of material .

Watch video on properties of materials.

Class discussion - how to describe materials - strong, waterproof, flexible, hard, soft, etc. Enhance word wall.

Group work - select a material and identify characteristics of materials - describing words.

Discuss words and identify meaning. Dictionary activity & interactive.

CFU: Game - Cards around room (eg: waterproof, flexible, strong, transparent - see Game Cards resource). Teacher describes characteristic. Students move to correct characteristic.

Group work - Predict and test certain materials for strength, flexibility, waterproof, transparency (See Worksheet).
